Coached by CCM faculty in a fun, low-key atmosphere, the Jazz Combo is a great way to celebrate your love of this spontaneous and fun music genre as well as continuing to develop your musical skills.  The immensely talented CCM Jazz faculty has performed and recorded with jazz musicians such as Grammy winners Danilo Perez and Mark Walker, and with Grammy-winning composer/conductor Maria Schneider.  Also Jazz icons such as Joan Brakeen, Jerry Bergozi, and Yoron Israel.

CCM invites students at all levels and instruments to consider joining one of our Jazz Combos.  All saxophone, percussion, piano, electric guitar and bass, double bass, brass and more are welcome.  The Combos will meet weekly for an hour and 30 minutes, for 13 weeks each semester.  Combos will start the week of November 1 and will include a performance at the end of the semester.  The scheduling is based on group availability.  Prerequisite: 2 years playing experience and/or private instruction, beginners to the most advanced are encouraged to attend the Open House.

Jazz is a uniquely American art form that is treasured around the world. Jazz is spontaneous and fun; it expands the imagination and sharpens the mind. Jazz combines note reading and improvisation and promotes rhythmic
flexibility with an emphasis on the social aspects of music making.

CCM offers the study of private Jazz instruction on all instruments. Every student of Jazz needs to develop not only awareness and understanding
of jazz tradition, but a personal style within the tradition. This course of study is designed to develop improvisation skills which will lead to playing in an ensemble setting. Emphasis is placed upon basic improvisation, scale formations, chord formations and relationships, aural skills, hearing chord progressions, developing
melodies, motivic and rhythmic development, and playing on changes. CCM private students and outside students will be grouped in small ensembles according to experience and level.

Contact the CCM office for private instruction placement and ensemble opportunities.
