Dalcroze Eurhythmics
45 min. class 10 - week session
Fee $168

Fall semester begins the week of September 25

Instructor: Isabel Aybar
What is Dalcroze Eurhythmics? Dalcroze Eurhythmics is a philosophy of music education based on the ideas and teaching of Emile Jacques-Dalcroze, a revolutionary Swiss musician and educator who lived from 1865 to 1950. He believed that engaging in movement to musc results in a more thorough understanding of musical ideas and better musicianship. In addition, he stressed the importance of improvisation and systematic ear training in musical development.

In Dalcroze Eurhythmics, the joy of moving the body fosters the learning of musical concepts such as beat, dynamics, durations, melodic direction, meter, form, and phrasing. Games and activities are designed to allow the students to experience the musical concept in various ways and to make their own discoveries about it. Specific ear training games allow the students to develop their inner hearing as well as their singing voices.

In addition, Dalcroze Eurhythmics classes always incorporate improvisation, thus allowing the students to use their newfound knowledge and skills in creative ways. This improvisation may involve words, gestures, partner work, playing instruments, or moving the whole body.

Musical material is presented in age appropriate ways for each age group. Comfortable clothing should be worn. Please note that classes are usually held barefoot; if your child does not like to be barefoot, please have him or her wear non-slip socks.

KEYS for KIDS®
45 min. class - 15 week sessions
Fee $298 (plus $20 music book fee)
Introduction, Tuition & Schedule
Fall semester begins the week of September 11 - January 8
Spring semester begins the week of January 29 - May 21

Keys for Kids® is an engaging comprehensive group music program designed to help children discover the world of music through music games, ear training, solfege singing, rhythm activities, and keyboard playing.

Designed as a multi-year course, classes encourage development of both the individual's and the group's musical skills. Class time activities cover many aspects of musicianship while accommodating children's attention spans. Children develop a solid musical foundation, regardless of future instrument choice.

Classes are taught to small groups of parent-child teams. Groups are carefully organized according to children's age, skill level, and musical goals. Parents are expected (and for the youngest students, required) to learn along with their children and to then practice with their children.

Each semester students receive a new and challenging book that includes music pieces, theory, sight-reading, ear training, and technique activities. CCM provides keyboards for the group lessons: however, students must have a piano or keyboard at home to practice. Parent/Caregiver participation at lessons is required. Parents/Caregivers do not need prior musical instruction to participate.

Keys for Kids Levels
Students can begin at any age from 3 to 11 and follow a sequence of courses appropriate to their age and abilities (see diagram below). While the piano (or electronic keyboard) is the instrument used for instruction, children develop a wide range of musical skills and knowledge that will be useful for any other instrument they may later choose.

PRIVATE LESSONS
Overview
Private lessons are offered for children and adults from beginning to advanced levels in piano, violin, viola, cello, guitar, flute, and voice.

To arrange for private lesson instruction, please contact The Concord Conservatory of Music office at 978-369-0010, or email info@ConcordConservatory.org. The school director will discuss the student's needs and arrange for you to speak with an instructor directly.

Private instruction provides a great opportunity to learn to play an instrument or to continue building on existing knowledge and skill levels. Lessons are taught one-on-one, and are tailored to the individual student's needs and ability. This may be the only opportunity where the student has individual attention of a teacher. Over time, private music education develops patience, commitment, perseverance, logical thinking, goal-setting, time management, that lead to increased confidence and self-esteem.

Children learn at their own pace and this philosophy includes the belief that talent is not inherent, but nurtured by a child's environment. Parents participate fully in the learning process, attending all lessons and classes, and supervising home practice.

In addition to weekly private lessons, the Repertoire class gives students the opportunity to participate weekly with their peers through review, and to learn note reading and ensemble and solo playing. Enrollment in Repertoire class is highly recommended for all Suzuki string students as well as piano students.
